🚀 YouTube Outlier Finder

The single most valuable research move on YouTube: find videos that massively outperformed their channel's normal results. Those outliers are pre-validated topics. Scan any channel, or use the manual calculator with no data connection at all.

Manual calculator — works even when the data mirrors are busy:

About this tool

An outlier score is a video's views divided by its channel's median views. A 40,000-view video is unremarkable on a channel that usually gets a million — and a phenomenon on a channel that usually gets 4,000 (a 10× outlier). Outliers are the closest thing YouTube research has to proof: a real audience, on a real channel of reachable size, demonstrably wanted that topic far more than that channel's average topic.

The strategy is not copying — it is validated borrowing. Scan channels two to ten times your size in your niche, collect every video above 3×, and the list you end up with is a month of topics the market has already tested for you. Make your version with your angle, your examples and your voice; the topic's demand is proven, the execution is yours. The manual calculator exists because scores matter in one-off checks too — a screenshot, a hunch, a video someone sends you.

How to use it

  1. Paste a channel from your niche (2–10× your size is the sweet spot) and press Scan.
  2. Read the median first — it is the channel's true normal, then look at everything 3× and above.
  3. Copy the top outliers into your ideas list; note the shared pattern in their titles.
  4. No channel handy? Use the manual calculator with any video's views and its channel's typical views.

Tips from real creator workflows

  • A 10× outlier on a tiny channel (median 200 views) is weaker evidence than a 4× on a channel with a 40k median — weight by the base.
  • Outlier topics decay: a breakout from this quarter is a live wave; from three years ago, it is history. Prefer recent scans.
  • Two outliers on the same topic from different channels = the strongest signal this tool can give you. Film that topic.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated?

Video views ÷ the channel median views across its recent long-form videos (Shorts excluded). 2× = outlier, 5× = strong outlier, 10×+ = viral outlier. The full formula is shown openly — no black box.

Why the median and not the average?

One viral video inflates an average and makes everything else look weak. The median is immune to that, so it represents what the channel typically earns.

Why did my scan fail?

The scan uses free public data mirrors, which occasionally rate-limit. The manual calculator above always works — find the channel's typical views from its Videos tab sorted by popular vs recent.
