About this tool
A good niche is not the one with the most views β it is the one where demand is high and the supply of good channels is still thin. This tool scores twelve niches with sustained, advertiser-friendly demand on two axes: audience demand (how much viewing exists) and competition (how many established channels already serve it), combined into a single opportunity score you can sort your shortlist by.
Treat the winner as a hypothesis, not a verdict. The professional workflow is: shortlist two or three niches here, then run each through the Outlier Finder against real channels of a size you could plausibly reach in a year. If mid-size channels in the niche are producing outlier videos right now, the niche is alive. If only giants break out, pick another corner.
How to use it
- Press Score the Niches to see the full comparison table.
- Optionally type a word (health, history, finance) to boost niches containing it to the top.
- Note the two or three niches whose format column matches a style you can actually produce weekly.
- Validate the finalist with the Outlier Finder and Trending Search before filming anything.
Tips from real creator workflows
- Format fit beats raw score: a 70-score niche in a format you enjoy will out-produce a 90-score niche you abandon in month two.
- Advertiser demand matters as much as viewer demand β finance, health and education niches monetise several times better per view than pure entertainment.
- Enter as a sub-niche: 'history' is crowded, 'history of everyday objects' is a position. Use the winning row as a parent, then narrow it.
Frequently asked questions
Where do these scores come from?
They are editorial planning estimates built from public demand signals and the observed density of established channels in each niche β a comparison aid for shortlisting, presented openly as estimates, not YouTube internal data.
Should I always pick the highest opportunity score?
No. Pick the highest score among niches whose format you can produce consistently for six months. Consistency in a good niche beats a month of effort in a perfect one.
Can a niche be too small?
If no channel under 100k subscribers in the niche has a video over 50k views in the last year, demand is probably too thin. The Outlier Finder answers this in one scan.
