About this tool
Post-mortems fail when they rely on memory and feelings. This comparison pulls both videos' public stats at the same moment — title, channel, views, likes, duration and upload date — and puts them in one table, which turns 'their video did better' into specific, fixable hypotheses: it was longer, it was older, the like ratio says the content delivered, or the channel was simply ten times bigger and the comparison was never fair.
The fairest comparisons are against your own channel: this month's video versus last month's on the same topic. The like-to-view ratio is the sleeper metric in the table — it is the closest public proxy for how satisfied viewers were, and a video that loses on views but wins on like ratio usually lost on packaging (title/thumbnail), not content. That is the cheapest loss to fix.
How to use it
- Paste your video as A and the comparison video as B (either order works, consistency helps).
- Compare like-for-like first: age and channel size explain most raw view gaps.
- Compute like ratio in your head (likes ÷ views × 100). Above ~3% is strong for most niches.
- Write down the one variable you will change next upload — never five.
Tips from real creator workflows
- Compare videos of similar age: a 2-year-old video has had 24 months of search traffic your 2-week video has not.
- If B's channel is 10× bigger, compare B against its own channel median (Outlier Finder) instead of against your raw views.
- Re-run the same comparison in 30 days; velocity changes are more informative than totals.
Frequently asked questions
Why compare likes and not just views?
Views measure packaging and promotion; likes per view measures satisfaction. Knowing which of the two failed tells you whether to fix the thumbnail or the video.
Can I compare a Short with a long video?
The numbers will load, but the comparison misleads — Shorts views are counted differently and likes behave differently. Compare within one format.
